OBVES:
What we read in Genesis 1 is a description of the vision of the creation God Yahweh gave to Moses on the Mount Sinai for 6 or 7 days which were literal 24-hour days Moses spent on the mount !
On what basis is this claim made, please?
i am gonna keep it as simple as this...please answer this simple one question to you who do not believe in intelligent design.. but wait...you notice how evolution leaves out all the obvious details about the human body..which leads to my question how did man and woman evolved???

Dear Brothers,
We would like to inform you faithful worhsippers of Jehovah that it has been decided the urgent work we are privileged to see in the field ministry during these momentous last days will be better accomplished by using a special version of God's magnificent word, entitled "The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures: The Last Days". Appealing specifically to the needs of todays householders, this exciting edition will focus on practical matters and avoids passages or, occasionally, verses which may seem problematic to those who have not yet accepted the glorious new light with which we have been blessed. Publishers will be instructed to use only this edition in the field ministry, which is the proper food at this time. Interested persons who insist on discussing parts of God's word which do not appear in the The Last Days after the publication's release should be avoided as they will only show themselves too proud to accept Jehovah's loving provisions.
We would also like to announce a revised edition of the current New World Translation for use at meetings by all of Jehovah's people. This edition does contain all of the established canon, but the brothers on the translation committee, who are so humble that they have respectfully declined to be credited for their meticulous work, have ensured the message is worded in such a way as to make truths that have only been revealed to those deserving of Jesus' approval early last century all the more clear.
Your fellow brothers at Brooklyn trust the use of both editions, as instructed by the faithful and discreet slave (Matt 24:45), will further bring great joy to our loving heavenly Father as you carry on sticking close to his earthly organization and more people escape the clutches of this evil system in order to come to know him.
i'm sorry if i'm totally wrong here but i have a serious problem.. i met a woman in the company i work in via intranet.
it is a very big company with offices all over the world.
she moved to the united kingdom just a few month before we met.
svennibennie:
She defined her as " good girl gone bad"... and what is more important " and will never be good again"
In my eyes that sounds as if she is determined to keep up the relationship with me... Am I wrong ? What do you folks think about that ?
From what you've told us before, I'd guess that she is determined to keep up the relationship anyway. If she didn't, I don't think she would spend so much time with you whilst hiding the fact that she does from other JW's. And yes, what she said there sounds encouraging.
svennibennie:
This is not to be a four weeks journey after all - I will always need your help, even IF she will leave that cult.
Regarding what she would be like after leaving, one just can't tell. Several months of being inactive (not going on field service) and not attending meetings whilst doing some real bible study was enough for me to mostly break free from the mental influence of the WTS. She may take less or more time if she ever goes through a similar process.
svennibennie:
If I just could do you some favour in return. I dont want to seem like I only use you.
If I can be of any help to others who are affected by the organisation from which I escaped I will be very pleased about that. I know virtually all other ex-JW's here feel the same.
svennibennie:
Maybe there is good project going on where a donation would be helpful.
Silent Lambs might be something you'd be interested in.
would someone seriously consider arranging for an apostafest up in scotland next year?
i know i'm asking this early but i feel it would be good to put the feelers out now.. obviously, it would have to be a location easy to get to - so that means stornoway is out!
sorry, ross & xena.
Cool. I haven't booked accommodation yet as I may just travel to Edinburgh for the day/evening. However, if there are plans to do things Friday/Sunday let me know and I'll probably stay there.
hey guys.
can anyone point me to good references on whether the bible is accurate or not.
like a rebuttal of the november 2007 awake?.
Well, starting at the beginning, how about comparing the two creation stories (chapter 1's account being from the P source and chapter 2's account being from the J source) with each other and scientific facts?
Someone requiring the bible's inerrancy can explain the differences away, but intellectual honesty can't.
originally, i was going to post this in my dr. ehrman's "problem" verse topic, but i didn't want to get too far off track, and this post is about divine inspiration in general, so i decided to give it a thread of its own.
1. translations are not referred to as inspired.
yet the septuagint, the greek translation of the hebrew scriptures written before the time of jesus, was quoted in the new testament.
So, it appears that the actions of recording, preserving, and canonizing the scriptures were human-based to save and pass on what were considered sacred teachings and history. What are we to make of this?
That the sacred teachings and history are human-based, too?
Note I am not specifying...
Shouldn't this blatantly rude behaviour be dealt with in order to stop it happening again? Not only is it idiotic; it also has no basis in scripture. No one knows the hour etc.
i am new here and i have been reading a lot of stuff on this board.
my parent's are both jws, i am still active and still believe i have the truth.
i consider myself a moral person.
I can see how peoples' quips could be seen as cold-hearted. Just try to distinguish between the tragic events themselves and the jokes at the Society's expense.
I know I'm young...
No you're not. You're a fully grown adult and should be allowed to say what you want.
If this is what I'll turn into if I leave the truth, I'd rather stay in.
That's the great thing about being human - you get to choose who you are. You don't have to be like anyone in the congregation, circuit or religion, anyone on this forum, or any other human being. You get to be you.
What has happened to your human decency?
Nothing.
Edit: Actually, I'd say it's been given a chance to grow. Since leaving, prejudices seen to be such are being erased and I am able to be decent to more people.
wow!
i didn't know there was a place like this!
i just moved out from my parent's house.
Hi multifarious, Welcome mate. You sound like someone who values intellectual honesty. My advice is to take your time, make sure you do research thoroughly and remember that no one has a right to stop you learning.

Hi Sven,
After getting out, people dont seem to see any sense in their lives anymore...
All depends on the person. That wasn't an issue for me, but I had a very good friend providing support.
the author also points out several things about JW that doesnt fit to the bible .... with paragraphs and so on. Should I use these data for my talks as well ??
Avoid bashing her with too many things. Perhaps stick to one topic at a time. Revelation? That's what she'll be doing every week at her Tuesday meeting. Maybe it would be best to read some of Releasing the Bonds first?
this is my first post after many years of reading this site.
i am from the west midlands, england.
i was raised as a jw and got baptised aged 17, started "fading" whilst at university when i started to broaden my outlook and realised that all the so-called "worldly people" i had for so long been encouraged to avoid associating with were actually often open-minded, honest, generous and loyal people.
Hiya And He Ran. Good job with managing your life in the way you saw best. I'm hoping for a similar outcome.
I concentrated my research on the bible, supposedly the basis for JW teachings. This completely blew the belief system away so I don't feel guilty in myself at all now. (I hope I'll feel the same when I'm with family.) The book I started with was How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature--Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today.
